Fantastic! - By: Mr. S. Howie, 26 Mar 2007
It's true that this book is not necessarily bedtime reading (although that of course depends on the individual) but then it's not intended to be either. I simply cannot put this book down. It's fascinating! After reading so many toursist-inclinded books (even those designed for British readership) on the monarchy & its associated ceremonies it is a gust of crystal fresh air to at last discover an in-depth, truly academic account not only of the ceremonies of coronation but most importantly of how they evolved. This book answers clearly the question of why the coronation ceremony appears as it does today & how it got to that point.
This is not a book for an armchair monarchist that simply delights when they see the Queen appear on television. This is a book for those with an academic mind. Roy Strong is to be commended for bringing it to us!
Heavy going - By: Daniel Rampton, 13 Jul 2006
Roy Strongs book is certainly not bedtime reading, for one thing it it's far to heavy. It is a hard book to read as he gives far to much information that does not captivate onein to reading on. it is a book to look at for information on a particular coronation, but far to boring to read as a book.
