Enjoyable and Engaging - By: S. Urbaniak, 15 Nov 2008
When reading this book, I found it hard to stop drawing comparisons with a Woman of Substance, but I can honestly say that this book is far, far better. It is much better written, with realistic, engaging characters & an interesting, though at times unrealistic plot. The only negative point is that the book takes a LONG time to get going - it would seem to pick up & then start to drag again for the first two hundred pages or so, but this background really gets you into Fiona's head - you know whats happened to her & you know where she's coming from, & when she gets to New York it really hits its stride. This book is highly recommended, I can't remember the last time I enjoyed a book so much.
Utterly Fantastic - By: K. Wookey, 04 Oct 2008
This book had me hooked from the first page to the last. Jennifer Donnelly is a fantastic writer who manages to perfect the combination of a believable & captivating story with historical fact regarding London at the time of Jack the Ripper. If you're after a brilliant book to lose yourselfin during the cold winter months I strongly urge you to buy this! I also strongly recommend Jennifer Donnelly's other works especially 'A gathering light' which was the first book of hers I read & was what encouraged me to read this one.
Best book ever! - By: K. Smith, 23 Jul 2008
I loved this book & could read it over & over again. I would highly recommend it!
What a flower - By: Ms. R. Moone, 02 Jul 2008
I bought this book thinking it sounded a good feel good read, the size of the book also led me to believe it would last me through out my summer holiday......it didn't even see the plane journey! I could not put ths book down, I love it & amin the process of reading the winter rose hoping for much of the same (if not many) lovable characters & engrossing storyline. The tea rose isin some parts a little un-believable but who cares, it is a story after all
