The Daily Prayer of the Church - By: L. Taylor, 04 Dec 2007
The Divine Office is time honoured & tested method of prayer that offers a thorough groundingin Catholic worship outside the mass. The 'breviary' as it is known is prayed throughout the world and, once mastered, you have the assurance that your prayer is part of the official (Roman Catholic) church's glory & praise to God.
There are three volumes of the Divine Office. Volume One (this one) covers Advent & Christmas tide. Volume Two covers Lent, Holy Week & Eastertide. Volume Three covers Ordinary Time.
Volume one is where you begin & this offers a ruberical (the red coloured instruction), guide to praying the Office.
Included also are many writings from different saints as well as the official church calander.
As with all worthwhile prayer, The Divine Office takes time, but with faithful dedication it will become a very rewarding experience.
Liturgical - By: S. Davies, 20 Nov 2007
As with all liturgical books, the divine office is a very complicated volume to understand. At least there are enough ribbons to keep places, something which collins fails to doin its other liturgical works.
If you need this book, or you know you have the time & patience to use it (up to 2 hours a day), then by all means, go for it. However, laypeople can be served just as well by the smaller & cheaper, Shorter Morning & Evening Prayer, or very good internet sites.
