Abandoned - Anya Peters - By: R. Kyle, 25 Oct 2008
I bought this book from Amazon last week at a bargain price. Last night, no one heard a peep from me, as I sat transfixed, unable to put this book down! I stayed up until 3.30am, as I just had to finish this bookin one sitting. It's definitely a page-turner!
Anya's harrowing true story had me experiencing all kinds of emotions - hatred for her abusive uncle, fear with Anya, as she tried everything she could to avoid the confrontations & the inevitable heartbreak. I also felt her joy to finally get her life back on the road to recovery & the fact that she is a survivor. I have to admire her bravery & determination to survive at all costs.
The only thing I found which frustrated me slightly was occasionally she repeated herself & I found I was just reading the same over again. But Anya is not a professional writer & from her first attempt at writing an autobiography, I would say it was excellent.
Definitely a book I would recommend & worth every penny.
Abandoned: The True Story of a Little Girl Who Didn't Belong
abandoned - By: Mrs. Tracy A. Smith, 02 Oct 2008
This book was very emotional book to read & hard to put down once reading. When I read books like anya`s i want to shout just walk away but for a child who is being abused like this they are just trying to be loved by anyone of the family butin the end every one let anya down. Well worth a read!
The light within the darkness - By: Sarah Brown, 23 Jul 2008
Anya Peters tells the story of her suffering at the hands of her adoptive fatherin such a truthful way that I was left horrified & yet unable to stop reading. He was brutal to her, & his brutality came through emotionally, physically & sexually.
This little girl wanted so much to be loved that she clung on to her adoptive motherin fear & terror of being kicked out, even though an outsider would want to get her the hell out of there.
But the thing that is so inspiring about this story is that, even after her true parents let her down & continued to let her down, she didn't succumb to a victim mentality. She doesn't appear to blame them. She did what she had to do to survive, & she is finally making her life work.
It's a story of courage & possibility, & an inspiration for anyone who has to go through dark times.
You just have to read this book ... - By: Floddertje, 08 Jun 2008
I admire Anya for telling her true story. And for keeping her chin upin this miserable time.
I won't spoil the story but all I can say is that I can recommand this book. Once you start reading you can hardly stop because you get so attached to this story that you just need to know what happens next.
How unhappy and abused can one child be ..? - By: Leeds lass, 06 Apr 2008
There is no end to the abuse little anya suffered-physical, sexual, emotional, mental- she endured mental torture that would break any adult. I had tears rolling down my face page after page. One reviewer said anya didn`t know what happened to her uncle - but yes she did - she said he went to prison for several years & she saw him again after his release at `mummy`s` house. It`s hardly a surprise to find out who her real father is-yet you are still shocked at the simplicity of it all..Her real parents are not at all short of money, & they must have had an idea that anya was suffering-i can`t understand why they allowed it to continue. Everyonein this story suffersin some way-except anya`s real parents-yet they are the cause of it all. `The sins of the fathers will be visited upon the children`-comes to mind. I was disgusted & sickened to my stomach when anya`s `mummy` took her husband back. Some women are so weak they will accept anything ! Poor anya-you really have been through it haven`t you ? I was soooo proud of you when you broke your silence-i thought `yes !` I do hope life is being kinder to you now-you have made a lot of friends through this book-you won`t be easily forgotten. I`m going to have a look at your blog now. x
