This book is fast paced action & it delivers. If you're expecting an exceptional use of the english language then prepare to be disappointed. It is a fun & delicious fantasy story that combines many different elements the young girl on a quest, the oddball hero & the battle between good & evil, all used to great effect. It is not a pretentious book but a simple read no word weaving only action. But read this before bed & be prepared to have a smile on your face. I was left wishing I was Valkyrie Cain & I wanted to be 10 again so I could reenact some of the fight scenes without looking too silly.

Skulduggery Pleasant & Skulduggery Pleasant Playing with Fire was the best books I have ever read [and trust me most books do not grab my attention].
I got this book at Christmas, but I was too busy to read it. The next day I read a bit, then a bit more & a bit more & very soon I was stuck into the book. The book is funny, witty & scary.My favourite character is Stephanie.I think the second book is better than the first[but I still love the first one a lot!]because it has more comedyin it.I recommended it to five of my friends & they loved it.Skulduggery Pleasant Playing with Fire is a book recommended for all ages from 9-...!

AWESOME! - By: L. Siddiqui, 12 Jun 2008 The series overall feel like a movie script, i mean the action sequence is great. Skulduggery's jokes & his style is just....way too cool desceribe. The first book has you glued to the series. The duo Skulduggery & Valkyrie are a comic duo. I'd recommend this book to anyone!
Although my love for it does make it difficult to look for any bad points at all. Too good! I'd give it 6 stars!
