Beautiful- By: Catharine Kingcome, 16 Mar 2008 Another wonderful story by Sue Stainton, exquisitely illustrated as always. It is obvious that much research has gone into this book, the attention to detail is impressive. Children & adults of all ages will love it.Exquisite illustrations make this book a winner- By: A. Cater, 27 Sep 2007 Several years ago, a Chinese friend asked me if my cats' eyes glowedin the dark. At the time, I laughed & replied that it would be like the Blackpool illuminationsin my bedroom each night if they did. I was therefore amused by the lighthouse being lit up by the eyes of 12 assembled cats to save a fishboat from being dashed against the rocks. This is a very original story & well written. Sue Stainton creates a detailed image of the lighthouse & its environment which is further complimented & given life by Anne Mortimer's delightful illustrations. From experience, I feel that tabby cats are one of the hardest varieties of cats to paint but she always does it perfectly & Mackerel looks real enough to stroke. Setting the storyin a real village & real lighthouse also makes the story more special. Well done to both writer & artist for a winning picture book!
