Moving and inspiring - By: , 19 Jul 2008
Not only is the narrative gripping & exciting, the central ethos of the book is very inspiring. A fascinating account of a courageous man trying to return some of the generosity he received from some of the world's poorest people & succeeding beyond measure. Highly recommended.
Globalisation& the Education of girls - By: G. B. Garratt, 13 Jul 2008
This is an amazing book - Greg has sussed out long ago that the education of girls/women is the key for cultures to help & sustain themselves. Educate a woman & she will stay & help her community & wider culture, men often leave & go further afield with the benefits of their education & it becomes important to rise through the power systems for them. And lets be honest here, it is the men who are the warring factionin our cultures. I am not anti-men but very much for womens' education as one who has had the privilege & benefit of education & raising of consciousness. Myself & my daughter went to the Gambia, came back & organised fund raising to buy the land for a school - the school is being built - the message is ' just get on with it' Greg Moretenson is only one man, we can all help.
Inspirational - By: B. Khan, 07 Jul 2008
I bought this book on my holidaysin NY. Just could not stop reading it. This is the most amazing book I have readin recent times. It brought tears to my eyes on occasions. The story twists & turns every few pages & keeps the reader engagged. Beautifully written & also fit for big screen. I intend to buy copies of the book & pass it on to people who can contribute to CAI or similar projects. I have been involvedin helping poor kids of our village to go to school. This book has made me determined to do even more. Thank you Dr Greg for helping the people of our region.
No-one who cares about our future can afford to miss this book - By: Merovingius, 04 Jul 2008
5 stars seems ungenerous to a book that is not only a tribute to a formidable character (Greg Mortenson) writtenin high quality journalistic style, but a cautionary tale about how those who choose to run global politics without knowing the facts or the people on the ground are guility of the grossest dereliction of duty (i.e. George W Bush & his fellow ignorami). You'll find this book inspirational, provocative & ultimately gripping and,in my view, it changes perceptions of Islam profoundly. Read it, think hard & share the core point with anyone who'll listen - education is the key to unlocking the benign human resources of the third world - just start the process with courage, goodwill & a bucketful of belief & anything is possible. A book no childin the West should be allowed to ignore......
Deserves Five Stars - By: E. Walker, 28 Jun 2008
At the time of writing this review, the book has 5 stars. Greg deserves the stars for his bravery, let alone the content. I really enjoyed this book. It's well written, exciting & more importantly a massive eye-opener.
