Unwanted Daughter - By: Kelly Tan, 01 Nov 2002
This book has touched me deeply within my heart. Her Childhood was stressful, longing for the love from her parents that she never received. You can feel of what she felt during her childhood. I have given many tears to this book, more than i will ever give to any other books. Truly an outstanding novel.
Touching and emotional - By: , 01 May 2002
This book was passed on to me by my mother whom found it very comical to then call me Adeline. The book is a heartfelt true stroy that had me close to tears more than once. It was deep, thought provoking, & made you feel so very deeply for the 'unwanted chinese daughter'. This is not the book to read when depressed or maybe it is because you know how bad others have had it & you start to realise how lucky you are.

A story of human endurance in the face of many obstacles. - By: jim.crooks@ntlworld.com, 25 Nov 2001
A well written story telling of the life of a frightened & yet strong willed young girl. She escaped from her intolerable treatment by her step mother by excelling at her education.
The book tells of how the human spirit can hold fast through the worst of times with only the use of the mind as an escape route. The author should be commended on her compassion, as she gives all proceeds from the book sales to help others less well off than herself. The book also gives some insight into twentieth century China.
This book touches you like few others. - By: , 10 Jul 2001
This book is truly amazing, that a woman, who as a child suffered so much, has the courage to write about her life moved me so much. To be told she was nothing & would never amount to anything would break many people, but throughout the story Adeline reveals her strength of character. Though the book moved me to tears frequently, I could not put it down. Really Adeline Yen Mah summerises her own character & struggle for recognition from a family that didn't want her,in a line not even within the story, butin the preface. "Please believe that one single positive dream is more important than a thousand negative realities"
