Just because you're paranoid don't mean they're not after you- By: Dr. Matthew Broome, 06 Nov 2008 As the lyric from Cobain points out, being paranoid is not so much about believing that one is under threat but rather the reason for thinking such. Freeman & Freeman point out that paranoia is the unrealistic belief that other people what to harm us. And this topic is the subject of the book & crucially, why paranoia has become a pressing problemin today's society. The book is a cutting edge survey of recent psychological & epidemiological research into paranoia & addresses the relatively recent understanding of paranoia such that it is now no longer viewed as being confined to those with psychiatric diagnoses such as schizophrenia. Rather, paranoia can occurin a normal, non-helpseeking population & is now thought to be on a continuum with those more pronounced delusions of persecution seenin psychotic disorders. The book is very well written, full of literary & clinical vignettes, engaging & authoritative: as someone who did the Camberwell walk for almost 8 years, it is fantastic to see its effect on our thinkingin print!
