When I studies physics long ago we used this book to learn thermodynamics, & frankly I didn't like it. Atkins manages to derive all the formulas, but the book doesn't teach you to apreciate the overall structure of the theory.

If you have read Atkins & you are good with math, but still slightly confused about how the laws of thermodynamics actually fit together, then I highly recommend "Thermodynamics & an Introduction to Thermostatistics" by Herbert B. Callen. That is a better book.
