Hilarious and revealing - By: Abovealldonoharm, 17 Apr 2007
I've been interestedin Britain for a very long time. I've read lots of books on the culture, but this is the best one by far.
Every Brit who has an American friend or vice versa, should read this book to help you understand why the other seems like an alien at times.
Hilarious, very perceptive - By: lynetter, 13 Mar 2003
Having lived for 2 yearsin New York & 7 yearsin London, I loved this book & felt it really rang true. It highlights some core values & differencesin perceptions between US & UK culture that endure, despite speaking (almost) the same language & sharing many sitcoms & retail chains. It's a very quick read, & very funny - it had me giggling out loud on several tube journeys, as well as giggles from the strangers around me reading over my shoulder! There were occasional points which seemed overly stereotypical or slightly out of date, but this didn't detract from my enjoyment of the book. Highly recommended
Better than Bill Bryson - By: Mark Manton, 11 Feb 2003
I am "British" (bornin UK, grew upin SA) & my wife is American. We've livedin the US, Netherlands, France & the UK for last 3 years. This book is the best explanation I've ever read to help me understand my mother (British through & through), my new neighbours & my in-laws. On a recent visit by my in-laws I read the part on the US view of death (your fault if you die, you haven't eaten well enough/exercised enough/etc.) expecting "yes, but ... " commments. All I got was "damned right! Of course it is." And at the same time you get a really good chuckle.
I read it originallyin NL. Reread it again since livingin the UK & a whole slew of new observations about Brits suddenly made sense!
If you like Bill Bryson, you'll love Brit-Think Ameri-Think.
A must before crossing the Atlantic! - By: , 12 Mar 2000
An essential, light-hearted look at the differences between our apparently similar cultures. With wit & fact it unravels the not so subtle differences & leaves it up to the reader to decide who is the weirdest!
A must for the plane - what ever direction you are crossing the Atlantic.

This book gets British & US Culture down to a tee. My wife & I livedin Russia for 4 years with a group of Yanks & Brits. Everyone agreed this book positioned us correctly, have bought several copies for Brits & americans crossing the pond.
