An excellent short book that succintly rather than simply explains many of the smaller although more horrible wars of the last century. The maps, diagrams & picture illustrate brilliantly the tactical & strategic elements that often were the turning pointsin these conflicts. Highly worthwhile reading for anyone wishing to gain a quick though incisive understanding of the modern conflicts that we see today.

I liked the chapters regarding the Mau Mau uprising & the Algerian war.The sense of belonging to one country or tribe is a very strong identity & the struggles felt by the Kenyan, Algerian , Afghan & Vietnamese people are very vividly describedin this book.
