A hilarious novel - By: Christopher Fraser, 28 Dec 2008
In a way, I feel miffed that this is Paul Neilan's only work, as this remains one of the best novels I own (and I'm not prone to superlatives). By turns a biting attack on the average workplace, a selection of absurdist situations, & a beautiful commentary of a slightly off-centre young male, this is ideal for anyone who has ever been boredin their job, finds the people around them strange & unreal, or has even the remotest sense of humour. Because that's where the core of this book lies -in its comedy. Although I'm far from the real target audience (at a guess, I'd say the disillusioned American male shop clerk, of which I only represent one group), I was struggling not to embarrass myself on the bus whilst reading this book - I challenge you not to either.
An excellent read..More please!! - By: Mr. A. Barrett, 30 May 2008
This has to be one of the best books I've readin quite a while. His take on office life is something I can relate to - I used to work for an insurance company, though minus the cubicles the poor souls have to workin thank god! The characters are well written & it makes you wonder how many people close to home have influenced his writing.
Cynical & hilarious, I'd recommend it to anyone.
Funny gags strung together - By: Paul Jaines, 20 May 2008
Basically this book is a load of very funny gags & observations strung together into a story that is pretty thin that just fizzles out. There are parts of this book that make you laugh out loud but overall the story says nothing & about half way through it becomes apparent that there is not muchin the way of plot. At the end everything just seems to be sewn up within 2-3 pages without much thought.
Quirky, interesting, humorous - By: A. Green, 06 Feb 2008
unexpected from the first page, this little tale starts nowhere, ends nowhere but does it with a crass & knockabout style which makes it hugely enjoyable. The observations are crisp & the imagery vivid. There are flat points, & you have to relax into the world to avoid fighting the plausibility of the characters, however, this is not the point. Amusing, cleverin places & overall a good read.
Funny, but not THAT funny - By: booky, 13 Dec 2007
This is he first book by this author so I will try not to be too harsh. The book is funny places, but overall it just seems a bit too glib for my liking. Jokes are recycled throughout the book so you end up with almost constant deja vu as you read it.
