A GOOD ENJOYABLE THRILLER - By: J. R. Daniell, 22 Oct 2008
I read loads of crime/thriller books & this is one of the best debuts I have read this year. As you read the plot thickens & you end up wondering who is telling the truth. It may take a little while for Tora, the main character, to be liked. But I liked the different mix of characters & guessing who was on whos side! It also doesn't delve too much into the medical jargon & information that ruin some books.
Overall, I really enjoyed it & she is a author I am definitely going to read again, & one I will recommend people read.
Wow! - By: eclectic reader, 07 Sep 2008
This is one of the best murder mystery thrillers I have readin a long time. And from a new author.
Briefly, a consultant obstetrician moves to the Shetland Isles with her husband who is a native of the area but hasn't lived there since a teenager. Whilst digging a grave - for her horse! -in the land attached to their property, she unearths the body of an adult woman.
The ensuing investigation surrounding the death of the unknown woman goes along at a cracking pace, & despite having thought I had worked out "whodunnit" several times there is still more to be revealed.
It was refreshing to read a book with completely new characters to get to know, & setin a remote area, about which I knew little. I felt the plot was well thought out & well written. And all the characters credible.
I was reading this book at every possible moment to get to the end!
I rarely think a book is 5 stars, but this is definiately one of them. Eagerly awaiting her next novel.
Spellbinding and Un-putdownable - By: Janet, 28 Jul 2008
I normally read Barbara Erskine, but this book had me hooked rght from the start. I admit to staying up all night reading it. The plot was such that you had to read on & on to find answers. The description of the Shetland Isles was superb, I want to go there, although I won't do any digging! I would add Robin Cooke medical thrillers to the list of comparable authors. Cannot wait for the next book, please write it soon.
A Brilliant read - By: I love reading, 14 Jul 2008
Sacrifice is one of the best books I have read for a long time. I simply couldn't put it down. It is beautifully written, the plot & storylines are full of magical twists & turns, based on the rugged landscape of The Shetland Islands & involving local legend & folklore. The author has researched the theme well & she manages to bring to life the main character Tora.
An amazing book that brought about one of those now rare occasions when your mind keeps going back to the story. I now have to pass it on to other friends & family. I look forward to more from S J Bolton, she has become one of my favourite authors.
Bloody Brilliant - By: the elf, 10 Jul 2008
More twists & turns than a Labour Government. Just as you think it's all over you realise there's still a lot of pages to read. Yes, maybe it is a bit far fetched (Trolls) but at least it's original & damned good for a first novel. Read it & let yourself believe, lose yourselfin the plot - you won't be disappointed!
