Not enough thought. - By: , 05 Feb 1999
Carver shows some talentin this book but it is spoiled by carelessness. For example, without giving anything away, the alien dies, gets better & dies again, each time without a word of explanation; & he has discovered that a comet is on a collision course with Earth but doesn't know which one or when! And the high-tech devices used by the hero are just too much like magic. I will not be reading Carver again till he gets better reviews.
Great Book -- Read this and the Sequels - By: , 23 Jan 1998
This book combines hard sci-fi with a bit of humor to create an interesting story. Keeps you interested & wanting for more, which is providedin the sequels. Maybe alien "inhabitation" of human minds isn't so bad after all...
An "Asteroid endangers the earth story"? Far more than that! - By: , 09 Jun 1997
While Clarkes HAMMER OF GOD is his weakest efford I know, Carvers NEPTUNE CROSSING is equally compelling & enjoyable. His advantage over Clarke are his aliens; creatures that accompany the lead charakter on his involuntary & dangerous quest to save the earth.
Just this team of "feet on the ground hero" (human) & "guiding presense" (alien) make this book so interesting.
Although it is the opener for the CHAOS CHRONICLES it is also great as a stand-alone novel. Enjoy the amusing dialoques & the suspensefull plot!
