Not Exactly the Three Musketeers - By: L. L. M. Almenningen, 28 Jan 2004
Having read "The Three Musketeers" I thought Mr. Rosenberg's book portrayed men who were pretty much like them. Kehtol, Durine & Pirojil are loyal to their baroness & would do anything to protect the family. As they are sent on a mission to rescue a damsel from marriage, they encounter many trials. There is, of course, a dragon. I like fantasy books that protray dragons as intelligent people, rather than overgrown lizards. I haven't read any of Mr. Rosenberg's other books, but found this enjoyable.
The Man has Style........ - By: , 07 Jul 1999
I have to admit when I started this book I was upset that it did not delve into his past characters from the Gaudian's series more. By the time chapter two rolled around I was eagerly turning the pages & regretting the fact that I had to work the next day & needed sleep.
What can I say.....Rosenberg has style. His characters are likeable & real. He has a way of turning a phrase that shows his intelligence. Rosenberg comes up with surprises when you need them & his dialogue sizzles.
What more can you ask for?
Another book by Joel Rosenberg please :)
Without options! This will force you to call in sick to work - By: , 14 Apr 1999
As so many others who have read these books I too find myself locked awayin the linen closet till the book is done. Wow what a great way to compose a story from three supporting characters of past novels! However I must admitt that I am stuck on Jason & his epic tale to come. This one was a good buffer to wet our taste buds but I was a little dissapointed to find out that this was not the Jason story! Oh well, I still really enjoyed this book & Rosenberg is now the only fantasy author that I will read! Just because his stuff is: THAT GOOD! So do yourself a favor & pick this up or you will miss out on an inportant part of the GUARDIANS saga.
The Rosenberg Magic Continues... - By: , 02 Apr 1999
I got on board 16 years ago, with thinking the cover was cool on the Sleeping Dragon. Ever since, I dropin a local store to see if Mr. Rosenberg happened to do a new book. The latest 'Not Exactly the Three Musketeers' captures the gritty, funny, REAL, fantasy, edge of what I come to know as Mr. Rosenberg's works. A little toungin cheek, but hammers home characters (ALWAYS the strength of his novels!) with SUCH lifelike style. I am already salivating for the next one, especially if he explains the Arta Myrdhyn mystery some time.
A fantasticaly constructed maze with a surprising end. - By: , 03 Feb 1999
Once again Mr. Rosenberg has constructed a fantastic story. Ever since reading his first novel some 12 years ago, I have gone to bookstores with the hopes of a newer tale. And on those rare days when a new book lay gleaming on the shelves, I always cloistered myself into a comfortable chair until the cover was closed.
This teaser to another installment of the Guardians series is nothing less than perhaps his finest work to date. As a co-creator & writer of a fantasy gaming system myself, the plot elements, characterizations, & over-all pace is perfection on paper.
As a final credit to Mr. Rosenberg, I would like to thank him personally for carrying on the fine work & tradition of both his & my "mentor", the immortal Robert A. Heinlein. It was almost comical to see your dedication to himin your first novel. There are strong parallels between your writing styles & I'm sure that wherever he is now, he laughs at Walter too. Thanks for your stories & inspiration.
