Great for satisfying the taste buds and sluething passion!- By: mitch@onyxnet.co.uk, 18 Feb 2001 A book with recipes that head every chapter wouldn't immediately spring to mind as my perfect read! But hey, everything once! Lou Jane Temple is the author of the Heaven Lee mysteries, a restaurant owner - chefin Kansas, Missouri. Kansas is a new fictional location for me too, so allin all it refreshed my book buds! Temple is famed as catering for Pink Floyd whist they toured the states, (she is said to have served up fried rice & egg rolls to 200 crew members as well as a perfect English trifle). She has been a guest chef at the Culinary institute of America & at the famed James Beard Foundation, so her recipes aren't without credit! (And the eggplant roll ups were divine!). Enough said about the food, it was actually a very enjoyable read. Heaven isin charge of organising the catering for the big Jazz festivalin her hometown of Kansas. Whilst preparations bubble to boiling point, the event organiser is murdered & Heaven does a spot of sleuthing on the side. The story then is well paced with a suitable patchwork of side stories, red herrings & domestic problems. To accompany you on the journey the description of the food alone demands a trip to Kansas, I now yearn for some good home cooked soul food. An uplifting, energising story, that satisfies the taste buds but doesn't include the calories, what more does a good weekend need.
