Extras is another Gervais & Merchant masterpiece. Not only are the DVDs essential, but also these detailed, amazingly crafted scripts. Extras is a lessonin structure, dialog, & that delicate balance between big laughs & melancholic poetry. Every word, every silence, every movement is carefully but affectiously plannedin order to work.
No wonder Ricky Gervais says he wants to write a more dramatic TV seriesin the future. Between the comedy, where the surpringly touching sadness lies, Extras shows that him & Stephen Merchant can be the authors of the next Sopranos... Please, HBO & BBC - don't let them go, & give these guys the money & the freedom to create another TV legend!
