The best book! - By: K. V. Poynor, 13 Nov 2008
I have had diabetes for 35 years - & needed a 'refresh'. I read about this book on a messageboard & thought I would check it out - not only is it extremely informative about diabetes - & what it is all about - the advise is so, so sound - the best I have read (and I have read & received a lot!). You can follow the strict diet or cheat a bit like me! But the low carb approach (which isn't easy!) really does work for me - it is amazing. Type 1 or Type 2 I would recommend you read this book - even just for the inspiration. My diabetes is a part of me & have never had issues with it as I do not know life without it! But I am always learning!
Life Changing - By: Mr. W. Carter, 19 Dec 2007
This very informative book changed my Mother's life when she was diagnosed with Type 2 Diabetes earlier this year. Her sugar levels were so high that her doctor was convinced she was bordering on type 1.
The diet her doctor put her on, only made things worse. In desperation, I was commissioned to find a solution. And, find a solution, I did. In Fact, Dr Bernstein's solution is so effective, her blood sugars hover around normal every day.
My mother's doctor is no longer talking about insulin injections. In fact, he's not saying anything...he's dumbfounded.
Brilliant book! Well worth the money!
THIS BOOK NORMALISES BLOOD SUGAR - By: G. Battams, 09 Nov 2007
I just wanted to say that I agree with the other reviewers for this book. This book is the only one that did it for me. It kept my blood sugars normal. Fruit was messing me up & the Richard K. Bernstein reccomendeds the only friut we can eat is avarcado. The diet is strict but least I am empowered &in control over my life. I do not need to worry what bad things are going to happen to me if I keep on having high blood glucose levels. I am can keep my eyes & legs after all on this type of diet & therer is much hope for me & over time the habit changes to a healthier one, as I simply forget about junk & poisonous foods. Just think... if this diet/book is going to make you healthy, thin & beautiful well this is the book for you. If yourin dought, try the diet out & see for yourself. Life should be a joy!!!
Incredible - By: M. J. Pasterfield, 21 Apr 2006
I am recently diagnosed as a Type 1in the last year, but my brother has been diabetic for 30 years. Since being diagnosed at the age of 37, I have read so much & tried to make sense of the best how to bring my blood sugar back to normal. I believe that Dr Bernstein might just offer a genuine solution to swingsin blood sugar. If you restrict (severely) the intake of foods that cause rapid swingsin sugar, you make it easier to keep a balance. As someone with little long term experience of diabetes, I guess its easy for me to say this, but I have aleady noticed a significant difference. I am also someone who tests blood sugar every few hours & restricting my carb intake as is suggestedin the book works. Every time I vary from this, for instance by having bread, it goes wrong. I am now a convert & intend to stick to this.
This is not for the faint-hearted. You will need to change your diet completely & stop eating many of your favourite foods, but the upside is surely worth it.
I am just about to buy the book on-line for my brother. I don't think this book is a fad, like many similar diet books; to me this makes complete sense & from what I can tell, it works.
All You Ever Wanted To Know But Was Afraid To Ask - By: M. English, 26 Dec 2005
Having had insulin dependent diabetes for over 20 years, reading a book like this means I can ask questions of my diabetic 'advisors' with sound information to hand.Such as; have you ever been told what actually goes into insulin? Apart from Zinc, which slows down it's action, there's some horrible chemical called 'protamine'(that is sourced from fish-protein) that the dear Dr advises is bad for usin various ways. Wish I'd known that before I commenced on my last insulin regime:(Plenty of information for insulin dependent diabetics, a sort of : 'All You Ever Wanted To Know But Was Afraid To Ask'type of book. The diet makes sense, unless you're a Vegan,I am,and some of the information will now be out-of-date. However, it's written by a diabetic himself, so you get it, not holds barred & with PLENTY of detail. If you'rein the UK, you can still make sense of the book, just divide the blood sugar readings by 18.I recommend this book to any diabetic that wants to know the truth behind diabetic management & how to be a 'better' diabetic.
