I was disappointed by this book. I found it entertaining & diverting, but at the same time think it's a missed opportunity. Heald seems to spend rather a lot of the book talking about things that aren't really village cricket. The chapter on literature feels perfunctory. Overall, the author doesn't seem to have been very interestedin waht other people think about village cricket. I suspect more observation & listening would have produced a better book.
