Having just returned from a trip to Lefkas myself (its spelling varies depending on the map !) this book made much more sense,in terms of its sweep of locations. If you're looking for a boys own adventure,in the Innes tradition you'll be disappointed. This book is a brave attempt at moving the genre on & looking at how old Innes was when he wrote it, that opinion makes more sense. In short, it's probably not what you're expecting, but you won't be disappointed.

Takingin elements of paleontology, the ex-pat yachtie culture, turbulent Greek politics & much else besides, I came away impressed. Five stars ? No - if only because there are certain cranky passages which seem forced & out of place, but as a quick & dirty holiday read, you can't go far wrong.
