The Strode Venturer is setin & around The Maldives & the back ground story is about the villagers of Hitaddu who leave the Addu Atoll to live on a new island that has risen from the sea. Of course there is the adventure overlaying this back ground storyline.
I spent 9 months on the island of Hittadu & the Strode Venturer's sister ship, was our floating store house
NOT the same old tired thriller - By: W. Weinstein, 08 Mar 2001
You could be forgiven for thinking that this is yet another formulaic adventure storyin the style of Alastair Maclean, Jack Higgins, Desmond Bagley, et al. Surprisingly however, Mr Innes has crafted a gripping tale of family honour, double-cross, exploration, romance & a terrific boardroom climax. The story sweeps from the stock markets of London to the remote reaches of the South China Sea, from dusty lawyer's officesin Threadneedle Street to the reeking cabin of a disgraced ship's captain on a broken down hulk. Through it all, Mr Innes writes with flair & originality & the result is a thrilling book with a much broader sweep than the usual fare. The characters are complex & finely drawn. The hero is not an infallible man; he has doubts & fears like all of us, & the villains are made villainous, not by their evil intentions but through their all too human frailties. Buy this book & help to keep itin print. You will not be disappointed.
