A Book Reader's Best Friend - By: The Kinniburgh Kid, 15 May 2007
Unusual for a Herbert book, but all the better for it. A great idea & a great plot twist, I can not recommend this book highly enough. It should be every bit as famous as Watership Down. If you have ever owned a dog it is compulsory reading.
Warning: Just do not watch the movie - dreadful Americanised nonsense.
my favourite tale ,ever! - By: Biker Buzz, 30 Apr 2007
Having read all the Herbert I could get hold of at 15 years of age & being absolutely hooked I didn't expect to like this much, not enough gore & horror. However, it is the best tale I have ever read. So much so I used this for my oral reading exam & got a few more people hooked on Herbert as well. A fabulous concept, well written, un-put-downable!!
Four stars for good writing and an interesting idea. - By: Helen Simpson, 16 Aug 2006
For some reason this one never appealed to me as much as the usual JH horror stuff, like 'The Rats', 'The Dark' etc. However I was pleasantly surprised. Not your standard horror book but certainly delves into life & death, a topic which fascinates most of us.
The story is toldin the first person (or should that be the first dog?) & the author conveys 'being a dog' brilliantly.
We learn how 'Fluke' as he is eventually known feels different from other dogs & we follow his journey as he seeks to find out the truth.
Wonderfully written & beautifully described...with just the right amount of poignant moments...especially the end.

Fluke. James Herbert - By: Mr David Sharp, 26 Oct 2005
After reading nearly all of Mr Herberts novels i was pleasently suprised by Fluke. Differant from his usual horror stories this is more about a story of life, & an enjoyable one at that. It makes you think & i promise you wont look at animalsin the same light again, a cracking read.
