Sweetly Brilliant - By: BeatleBangs1964, 15 May 2006
The gruesomely named Farley Drexel, nicknamed Fudge, (if you were named Farley Drexel, wouldn't you insist on having a nickname)along with Beverly Cleary's irrepressible Ramona has been one of my favorite literary characters since I was a child. I was a Ramona growing up, so it was only natural I'd love reading about a bright, high spirited character. Fudge fits the tab nicely.

In this Fudge installment, Fudge's older brother Peter is going into middle school. Fudge, now almost 5 is excited about being a big brother for a change - a new sibling is on the way. Fudge's wonderful natural expression & clever sense of humor will no doubt delight readers of all ages.

The Hatchers have decided to leave their apartmentin Manhattan for a school year & spend that yearin Princeton, N.J. The boys have a lot of adjustments to make - a move; a new sibling on the way & a different school.

One of my favorite parts was when Fudge pretends to believein Santa. He laughs to his brother Peter about how he fooled everybody - since their parents think he believesin Santa, he goes along with it. Peter revealed that he never once believed; at 3 he saw their parents putting presents under the tree & would later tell them that he felt it best to clue Fudgein as "Fudge thinks you can get whatever you want if you ask Santa." He was right. I think Peter & Fudge are very lucky to be Santa savvy at such a young age. How I wish I'd had this book during my Santa believing days!

Part of my delight with this book is that it does unmask Santa; for many who want their kids to "believe longer" & "preserve their innocence," are postponing the inevitable. Although I personally wish I'd never believedin Santa & felt I'd been tricked, I do see the dual edge to this particular sword. I can understand, but not agree with the rationale for wanting to maintain this belief. In such instances, one cannot help but wonder if Santa is for the child or for the parents. Censoring a child's reading & editing story time so as to prevent unmasking Santa is only going to spark questions. Whenever anything is forbidden, asin this case a chapterin a book, it is only going to arouse even more questions & interest. Sooner or later the Santa will be out of the bag & an open frank discussion about Santa is a rite of passage to recognize, not dread.

My only objection is that I didn't like the new covers. I didn't like the drawing of Fudge with a worm jar on his head & Peter drawn as a scarecrow. I felt the drawings on the new covers were harsh; garish & unappealing to the eye.

Fudge, a bright youngster knows where babies come from; he is Santa savvy; he has get-rich-quick schemes & is full of personality, humor & high spirited fun. I just love Fudge!

This book is brilliant; funny; deep & serious.

Very Entertaining - By: L. Reynolds, 16 Jan 2006
As an adult, the Peter & Fudge books remain one of my favourite series of all time.
In Superfudge we meet up with the family now that Fudge is 4, Peter is 12, & there is a new arrivalin the form of baby Tootsie.
The book takes a light-hearted approach at dealing with issues such as the birth of a new sibling, & moving to a new town.

This is a great read ideal for kids aged around 8 upwards, but those younger will love to have this read to them too!

funny to read - By: Sabrina, 20 Feb 2003
I like the book very much because there are strange & funny adventures of the kindergartener Fudge & his brother Peter. There is a lot of direct speech, so you can laugh about the funny things Fudge says. If you like laughing about books & funny things about a four-year-old boy who makes lot of trouble you should buy this book.
Superfudge - By: Kathi , Anima & Denise, 20 Feb 2003
We like the book , because it's very funny! All the chaptersin this book are very good , but we think the best of them is "Farley Drexel meets rat face" !In this part Fudge (Farley Drexler) goes to kindergarten. He calls his kindergartenteacher "RAT FACE" , because she calls him Farley Drexler & he doesn't like that , because all the other people call him FUDGE.We hope that you also have great fun reading this book.
Will make you laugh! - By: tamara, 20 Feb 2003
We think Superfudge is a very funny, interesting & crazy book. The book tells about a family that livesin NY near Central Park, but they are moving to Princeton. The two brothers are named Peter & Fudge. Fudge is always making trouble. If you are unhappy you have to read this book & Fudge & his family will make you laugh a lot.
