This book is very deserving of 5 stars. Despite the fact it was written a while back, it holds true to it's word - it's provides concise & well grounded information on how to study effectively for a social science degree. I'm doing a law degree & found it very useful after my lecturer recommended it. The author teaches at the LSE & I commend him on writing such a good book.

Having come across Mr Dunleavy's bookin my course of study for a Master's Degree, my sole criticism of the it is that it restricts itself to the humanities - of course modes of study for physical & social sciences are different.

Particularly useful are the chapters on essays; examinations & dissertations.

As I could not recommend it highly enough, perhaps it might be useful if there were versions for students of higher degrees & physical sciences.
