Large-scale lift the flap book. Good value for money. - By: Dr. H. Payne, 23 Nov 2007
This is larger than most of Rod Campbell's other toddler books. It is A4 format & the pages are strong paper/thin card rather than the substantial boardin most of his other books. For this reason alone it is not ideal for the youngest of children (I was happy for my children to have board books from about 9 months old). My 19 month old daughter is currently enjoying this book without causing major damage to it.
The content of the book isn't bad at all. There is a fair variety of well-known nursery rhymes, odd snatches of Campbell's own rhyming couplets, hide & seek games with the animals & simple descriptions of the pictures & their flaps. There are domestic, farm, & more exotic animals. Animal houses & their young are included as are opportunities for counting which bring an added educational element to the book.
The only drawback with this book is that there is no narrative development or story as such. It's great as a point of interest & conversation with your child, but we do like storiesin our house!
Overall it's great as another book on the shelf, but not one of the best books you're likely to ever read to your child.
Excellent, Excellent, Excellent - By: , 01 Jul 2000
I first bought this book 6 years ago when my eldest daughter was a year old. It immediately became a favourite of hers. When her sister came along, it was enjoyed just as much. Since then, I have bought this book for my 2 nieces, a nephew & several friends children, &in each case, it has become favourites of theirs also. Excellent, Excellent, Excellent. I would tell anyone not to hesitatein buying it.
