Hmm, mixed feelings - By: M. Setters, 23 Feb 2007
This book held all the vocabulary I needed for A level, but :
Since moving to France, I have found that the content is very outmoded, or plain wrong. Expressions are out of context, or mistranslated, & it can't be relied up on if you plan to use Frenchin the real world.
Invaluable - By: C. Mcquillan, 22 May 2006
I cannot recommend this book enough, I don't think I will ever grow out of it, as the mix of diverse vocab & essential essay phrases is perfect. I first came across this bookin school when studying for my french AS/A2 Level & couldn't go to university without my own copy! I can equally recommend the german version Wort fuer Wort, I'm just waiting for an Italian version now!
Essential student vocab book - By: dhbooks, 11 Apr 2005
This should be a set text for all French AS/A level students - it covers vocab by topic, meaning that you can look up/learn vocab as you go through the topicsin the syllabus, & it also has a handy section at the front with phrases for usein essays or spoken work.
This version also has links to websites at the end of topics, which means you can check out articles relating to the topic straight after having learnt the vocab.
I would recommend this to anyone studying AS/A level French & above - the sort of vocab it gives often pops upin listening exercises & reading comprehensions, especially since they have synonym sections now.
Bonne chance!
Essential! - By: , 20 May 2004
Having used Palabra por Palabra & Mot a Mot at A-Level I made sure I got a copy for myself to take to uniersity - I now own the German version Wort fur Wort too! The vocab is linked by theme, ideal for essay writing, conversation or interpreting preparation. I find the chapter with all those essential essay expressions is usedin all my written assignments!
