Great grammar/workbook! - By: Madrid Lover, 29 Jun 2008
This book reminds me a little of a Spanish version of Raymond Mortimer's English Grammarin Use & Advanced Grammarin Use, which I used extensively when I worked as an EFL teacher. It combines good notes on usage & formation with clear examples & solid exercises & moves from beginner/intermediate levelin Part I to advanced levelin Part II. As an intermediate student of Spanish, I used this book to help me brush up on such language points as uses of haber, usage of the preterite vs the imperfect & formation of the subjunctive & found it terrifically useful. I have to take issue with the previous review by Midnight Cowboy - my edition has answers to the exercisesin both Parts I & II - those to Part I are on page 289. This edition was publishedin 2006. Maybe he/she has a different one?
Very good, but one flaw! - By: Midnight Cowboy, 29 Jul 2006
This is a very good learning resource. The book presents each aspect of the language clearly & concisely, without diverting from its key purpose - for example, some books I have seen drift off into discussions about Spanish culture, but this one sticks to the script.
I've only given it 4 stars though, because it fails on one major point - there are no answers to the exercisesin Part One! This seems inexplicable to me, if you don't have a teacher to hand you'll have no idea if your answers are correct or not. It seems strange that the authors have omitted these when there are answers to the exercisesin Part Two... but otherwise, a good book.
