Complete and utter rip off - By: D. Bowen, 15 Oct 2008
I amin my 2nd year of learning spanish at evening classes & this is another example of how to rip off people learning a language. The contentin my opinion is a huge step up from GCSE & if you can master it & understand everything by the time you come to your exams, you would quite easily look to get a grade C or above.
My main gripe is the fact that this book costs a ridiculous sum of money & offers no listening support whatsoever. I would say to anyone reading this please look around there are plenty of other cheaper resources that you could choose from.
Good luck with your studying.
Useless - By: C. Brown, 07 Aug 2008
I have just received this but if you want to know the answers to the questions, or listen to the clips needed for the listening exercises, you have to buy an £80 teachers edition.
A Spanish Godsend - By: E. Dale Leverton, 28 Nov 2007
I love this book, it has good exercises that are not boring like so many other text books. If I had to choose just one course book to get me through my Spanish GCE it would be this. The colour presentation & layout is excellent. There is an introduction & a transition chapter, then 6 units dedicated to AS & 6 units to A2. At the back is a REALLY useful grammar summary unit.
A waste of money without the CDs - By: Sonia101, 01 May 2006
This textbook is actually a waste of money without the CDs, which is very annoying, & it makes no sense to market it like this. In my opinion, there are much better Spanish learning resources on the market (CDs included) for around the same price. The content is interesting but not very well organised.
A good study aid but should be available with CD - By: AH, London, 10 Mar 2006
I amin my third year of studying Spanish at evening class & am using this book to prepare for an AS levelin May. It is a good study aid, so much better than the very basic GCSE texts which were aimed at school children studying for GCSE & were really boring for adults. Ponte al Dia is quite challenging, some of the chapters are more interesting than others but it is topical & informative.
There are several waysin which it could be better though: there are a lot of idiomatic expressions which despite having an extremely large Spanish/English dictionary I can't always translate. There is no vocabulary index, & no answers to the exercises. The major disantavantage as far as I'm concerned (and I know that my colleaguesin the class feel the same) is that it does not come with a CD, even though there is a CD & a lot of the exercises require it. I can't even find the CD for sale. The teacher hasn't got it either as it apparently costs upwards of £60 & he would have to buy it himself. This is extremely annoying as it effectively means we can't do half the exercises, & our teacher has to provide other material, which he does to the best of his ability but it's not the same.
