Kinda Boring, Kinda Good - By: , 12 Aug 1999
This book was kinda good, but it was pretty boring. i mean, i dont like how the author set up the book, making everything into a conversation. i like regular books better....you dont know how hard it is to write a book report on one big conversation!
One of the best books I've read! - By: , 05 Jun 1999
This book was a nice change of pace from the regular reading curriculum. I thoroughly enjoyed the play format. Although the book told an intriguing story, I thought the wording was a tad elementary. What really kept me reading was the plot development. Avi's writing techniques were superior to any other author because he was able to capture my attention.
An unrealistic story on a trivial topic! - By: , 04 Jun 1999
This book was pointless, on a meaningless topic. Page after page, I had to hold my eyelids open to keep from falling asleep. Furthermore, this book was not motivating. As a reader, I realize the importance of free speech. It is this reader's opinion that Avi, through Philip, chose a trivial topic to highlight the possible violation of his rights. In doing so, a teacher's career was changed forever. I am disappointed that Avi took such a simple conflict and, through his writing, has it lead to serious consequences. The play format did not help enhance this book, whatsoever.
This powerful and emotional book shows one boy's struggle. - By: , 03 Jun 1999
Avi Wortis Nothing But the Truth

This book is realistic fiction. It is a very powerful & emotional book about a boy struggling through his depressed adolescent years. His name is Phillip Malloy. Every day at Phillip's school the Star Spangled Banner plays. All the students stand at attention being perfectly silent. One day Phillip decides to hum along. He calls it patriotic. His teacher calls it a disturbance. He is sent to the principal & told to stop. The next day he continues to hum. He again goes to the principal. His homeroom is changed. He still cannot hum. He tells his parents. A reporter is there & thinks it is a big deal. She interviews him. The story is published & blown out of proportion. Within weeks, it is the biggest storyin the nation. Allin all I give it four stars. It was a great book up to the very last sentence. I completely recommend it to anyone who enjoys reading. Once you start you will not be able to put it down.
