The way that John & the horse bonded was very special. It was very emotional for me to see a man & animal become so closein such a short period of time. I suppose that I am a weinie but I wonder what that horse will feel when his new buddy, John, is not there for himin the days ahead. I have been around the world twice, seen two world's fairs, & even been to Texas, but I have never seen anything like what I saw today. The clinic was truly one of the most inspirational & emotional exhibitions I have ever seen. Keep up the good work, John. Very respectfully, John Irwin
The most natural training program! - By: , 10 Mar 1999 I love this book! John teaches you how to work with your horse instead of against him! It's alot of common sense. A must have!
A down to earth, gentle guide to horse training. - By: , 05 Sep 1998 Reading this book & watching the videos that go with it is the best way to really understand what John Lyons is all about. If you have ever trained a dog, you understand what conditioned-response is, & he teaches you how to apply the same theory to training horses. John Lyons does not hold himself out as a horse-whisperer guru type trainer, but rather as a guy who has a very logical, conditioned-response method of dealing with horses. I liked the way he explained the techniques & his emphasis on safety for the trainer & the horse. Some things are hard to picture from his explanationin the book, so watching the videos put it all together for me. (An example is the hitting the horse on the leg bit that another reviewer mentioned. If you saw the video & saw what he was doing, you probably would not feel uncomfortable with it.) I have found this book the most novice-friendly book of its type.
Very informative and full of new ideas - By: , 24 Aug 1998 I have watched John Lyonsin action & have read this book. I was able to study & put to action the informationin this book on my 10 year old pony. My pony was a typical pony; he had his own ways & was difficult to manage. I did not know if the information would help me. From this book I was able to work my pony into a partner instead of a spoiled pet. My pony was even happier doing his job. The information works & has taught me many things that I felt were correct but different from what other trainers did. Just be prepared to really work at what you want with your horse. It will not come quickly but when it works, the result is so sweet!
This book is the best book I have! - By: , 09 Jul 1998 I have seen several of John Lyon's clinics & seminars & he is the greatest trainer of all time. His explanations are very simple & easy to understand. He gives great examples. I would recommend this book to everone. Beginners will learn a lot from this book, & even Professionals will love it! This is the best book I have!
