A must read in any language - By: , 06 Feb 2004
This is a truly wonderful book. I had to read it for my A'level. When I started reading it, my French wasn't up to it, as there is quite a bit of slangin it, but the story is so good that no matter what your level of French, you are compelled to keep reading......
I just read it again this year, & it was even better than I remembered. This true story captivates you. It keeps you on the edge of your seat as they get into scrape-after-scrape. However, their amazing luck, quick thinking & pure innocence gets them through.
You will be crying & laughing on the same page!
war through the eyes of a child - By: , 11 Apr 2002
"Un sac de billes" is an autobiography of Joseph Joffo's childhood as a Jew during the Second World War. It is Joffo's unusal ability to portrait life accurately from a childs point of vew which makes this book so spectacular. The language is not overly complicated & should certainly not deter people from reading this book. Highly entertaining & thought provoking, "Un sac de billes" is well worth a read.
Exciting and extraordinary! - By: , 03 Mar 2001
Follow two Jewish boys as they journey across France to find saftey from the invading Nazis. Read how they manage to wriggle out of danger. Luck was indeed on these boys' sides. How did they managed to survive the war? I don't think they know themselves. Through their cheekiness & their grit & determination, they always found people who would want to help, & even lie for them. I can't believe that this book is true!
What a wonderful book! - By: , 31 May 2000
Not too much to say except this is the best book I have ever read. It was read for my A-level French & was truely brilliant. You must, read this one!
"Anne Frank" for boys! - By: , 07 Dec 1999
This is a look at the Nazi occupation of Paris through the eyes of the Author as a boy. We get a clear insight into the traumas of being Jewishin Paris at this time & also the "adventure" of two young boys' escapades as they flee through France, working where possible, hiding at all times. An excellent way to introduce the theme to children (French-speaking ones) or just a good read for those who want to improve their French but don't want to wade through masses of medieval poetry.

Of all the books I studies at Uni, this was definitely my favourite.
