... he's hanging on a lamp-post at the corner of the Street - By: , 23 Feb 2005
A compelling read.
Basically this is a beautifully written potted history of "Il Duce," from small violent child to big violent fascist.
Intelligent, mesmerising, gifted, a vicious rapist & serial womaniser, but the right man at the right time. All of these things - from peasant to leaderin ten years - the world's original fascist who never quite dropped his socialist roots, & due to his ability to change direction more than oncein a single day, eventually stood for nothing.
Seriously, this wasn't a man ever tied by ideology, he had none. He was everything to everyone, then eventually nothing to anyone. The ultimate opportunist, when you read this you'll understand why there was only ever likely to be one outcome.
This book is more interesting than anything ever written on Hitler, who when compared to Mussolini comes over as the boring little idealog I'm sure he was.
Give it a read, "he's hanging on a lamp-post at the corner of the Street!"

Better books availible - By: , 12 Jan 2004
I am an AS level student using this book to accompany a larger text book that I use. I find this book rather irritating at times, where it is grammatically incorrect, or the phrasing used does not make sense.
It is a very comprehensive guide to the Rise of Fascism, however, I feel that it is not the best book on the market to buy about Italian Fascism
A more conceptual look at Fascist Italy. - By: , 08 Apr 2001
Mussolini & Fascist Italy takes each area of Fascist Italy & deals with it thematically, this proves particularly useful to study from. Unfortunately Blinkhorn does not include an overview of the period which is a great shame as the content is easy to digest.
