This book,in its fresh 2000 revised form, is even more indispensable than the previous incarnation & is both required reading & an obligatory purchase for anyone studying film. The book is wonderfully set out for those fresh to the medium & concise definitions are made- though the odd one (such as 'epic') may leave you scratching your head, for the most part it is brilliantly written & a great source of reference (and starting point). There is also a helpful bibliography of other sources to consult & at this price it would be rude not to own a copy- much better than overpriced books like Film Art. I think this, The Cinema Book & The Oxford Guide to Film Studies are the best books to start out with...
