when Mark accepts an invitation to head up a commitee looking at unsolved crimes, he gets the feeling there is copycat killer on the loose. At the same time, juack Stewart returns to perform a kidney transplant. Can the reason Jack left Los Angeles be sorted out? & can Mark get to the bottom of the mystery? A fantastic read as always.
I AM IN HEAVEN!!!!! - By: Amanda, 02 Jan 2006
I have been so fed up since Diagnosis Murder has no longer been on TV, so as soon as I discovered this novel I couldn't wait to get my hands on it. It certainly lived up to expectations. It has everything the TV series has & more. The murders are just a little bit more gritty & your get so much more information & feeling for the characters, which they obviously could never putin a TV episode. I am a massive Diagnosis Murder fan, but having said that I definately feel this book would appeal to anyone who loves a good murder mystery. I would definately recommend this book & can't wait to read the next.
Just What the Doctor Ordered - By: Mark Baker, 29 Sep 2003
When LAPD chief John Masters approaches Mark Sloan about serving on a committee to look into unsolved crimes, Mark is surprised. Sure, he has a great reputation for solving homicides, but it's something of an embarrassment to the department. Still, Mark is eager to look into these old cases & try to find someone who got away with murder. A chance file misplacedin the room takes Mark on a different direction, however. He's convenienced that one victim of a serial killer was murdered by a copycat who's still free. Striking out on his own, he begins to gather more evidence.
Meanwhile, Jack Stewart is back to perform a kidney transplant on one of Mark's patience, stirring up old feelings of betrayalin the tight nit group. Why exactly did Jack vanish with hardly a goodbye? And Jesse, who was finally beginning to feel free of Jack's shadow, is threatened by his return.
I started watching this show part way through its run, but I've caught a number of reruns over the years. I always enjoyed it. This book, written by one of the writer/producers, is just like catching an extended episode I missed. As you'd expect from someone that closely related to the series, the characters are perfectlyin character, & I got quite a kick out of some of the character moments. Mr. Goldberg also uses the format & opportunity to explore the characters a little more. While this part could have used a little more polish, I enjoyed it.
And the plot! I stayed up later then intended on more then one occasion to read "just one more chapter." Even though I figured things out a little earlier then I normally like, figuring out how Mark would make the connections certainly kept me glued to the pages.
If you were at all a fan of the TV show, run out & get this book today. You won't be sorry.
Silent Partner is a Must Read - By: Andy Callaghan, 26 Sep 2003
Ever since diagnosis murder was cancelled a couple of years ago, all DM fans have patiently waited for the Silent Partner by Lee Goldberg, & now here it is, & it doesn't dissapoint. The plot is as fast as the show's, & twist & turns, even a devoted DM fan can't spot. The Silent Partner features the much discussed return of Jack Stewart (Scott Baio) as a now rich young surgeon, who really doesn't get along with Jesse Travis (Charley Schlatter). Even if you have never seen a Diagnosis Murderin your life, still buy this book as it's a killer read.
A must read for all fans of Diagnosis Murder ! - By: Ann Rivers, 31 Aug 2003
TV tiein books have always been popular, but they are not usually written by people directly linked to the series itself.
In the case of The Silent Partner, however, the story has been written by one of DM's own producers, Lee Goldberg - & it shows ! All of the familiar, favourite characters are there - & thanks to Mr Goldberg's unique knowledge of these characters, you are allowed to see themin a new, often surprising light. The relationship between Steve Sloan & his father, especially, is given a whole new dimension.
The story itself is full of the twists & turns that made the series so entertaining. Mark Sloan wannabes will have a great time, piecing together all the clues - with plenty of DM's famous humour along the way !
So if you're a Diagnostic who, like me, has waited so long for more adventures with Dr Sloan & Co, then I'd recommend this book ! You'll find that wait coming to a highly enjoyable end !
