Very practical indeed - By: shoddy, 20 Jun 2007
As a Counselling Psychology trainee workingin primary care & with alcohol & drug users using CBT I find this manual indispensible.
For the complete novice, its initial chapters present a simple & concise guide to the theory & practice of cognitive behavioural therapy that is easy to understand & put into practice with clients.
Further chapters present a step-by-step 'how to' guide to the treatment of a variety of anxiety disorders including panic attacks, OCD, social anxiety & generalised anxiety. Each covers the evidence base, conceptualisation & treatment of a particular disorder, offering an outline treatment plan & a variety of cognitive tools & behavioural experiments to try.
I have found the book much more helpful than the more generalised, starry-eyed manual by Judith Beck as it provides a clear structure for working with clients with a particular diagnosis. At my stage of training it's just what I need to keep my own anxiety levelsin check, although even at ten quid off the RRP it didn't do much for my bank balance ...
Cognitive therapy of anxiety disorders - By: , 20 Dec 2004
I found this book to be informative & practical to use. Equal depth, research & evidencece-based treatment techniques are clearly highlighted for each disorder inclusive of OCD & panic disorder.
Additionally the book offers a range of models & treatment techniques which can easily be applied to clinical practice or used solely as a learning resource.

excellent handbook, discusses the use of CT in depth, yet is - By: , 12 Jan 2002
This is an excellent manual & guide for anyone interestedin Cognitive Therapy. It discussesin depth the the theory & models of anxiety yet manages to be an 'easy' read. This book is indispensable to anyone who is workingin the field whether they are trainees or experienced therapists. I refer to it constantly & have never found anything to be missing! It methodically covers assessment & clinical measures, the basic techniques of cognitive therapy, then goes on to discussin great detail the major disorders that can be treated using CT.
Excellent book for practicioners and researchers alike - By: , 18 Jul 2001
This book by Adrian Wells is a comprehensive & informative overview on the authors thinking about a number of anxiety disorders & their treatment. Few researchers are as muchin touch with their patients & at the same time are able to outline the essence of the problems of these patientsin such an understandable & yet precise fashion. I highly recommend this book to all psychotherapists & especially to cognitive-behavioral therapists that treat patients with anxiety disorders. I feel that after reading this book, I have understood a great deal more about anxiety disorders, my patients & how to treat them than i had before (that is after about 4 years of practise & an equal amout of time of research & study of these disorders).
