A story of two halves - By: , 01 Apr 2000
Where to start? The characters are all spot on. Avon & Tarrant are particularly noteworthy. The story however is a turgid rehash of The SevenFold Crown. Replace the diadem with Syndeton & it's spookily identical.
What's all this hyperspace stuff anyway? Has Barry gotten the show mixed up with Babylon 5 perhaps?
For the fanatical devotees its worth getting if only to feed the obsessvie collective complex however the casual listener may wish to steer themselves towards The SevenFold Crown which is much better.
A Failed Experiment - By: , 11 Feb 2000
Imagine if you could transfer your mind into a powerful, virtually indestructible robot body. As close to immortality as you could ever want!
An old idea by any standards but there is always lifein any old concept. Sadly, despite nods to Capek & RUR, among other robotic nuances there is little to riase this story above the dreary.
If "Sevenfold Crown" made you reminisce about how good B7 was as a TV series then this particular audio adventure will make you pine for it even more so.
This is totally awful with few redeeming features. I wish there was a ZERO option for the ratings as this is so bad & such an insult the original series.
It takes effort to listen to this & simply refuses to get any better. It tales some of the ideas from the original series, throws them out & replaces them with lamer concepts eg Vila's affinity for adrenalin & soma is replaced by something almost akin to becoming a hardened chocoholic.
Forget this one & pray that there are no more from Barry Letts.
