I am very sceptical about 'self-help' books, they seem to state the obvious & make you pay large amounts of money for it. However, I bought this on sale (sorry Paul!) as a buy three get one free deal - I couldn't find a third book I liked, I knew I needed to diet, & it was there. It sat on my bookshelf for months, unread. One particular Sunday, when depression over my weight & my job had made me hit an all-time low I was so desperate I read it. Cover to cover,in one sitting, to my surprise. I burst into tears at one point, embarrassingly, when a particular chapter made me ask myself how I could be so - neglectful? uncaring? - of myself. This is why I'm wary of self-help books, normally, that kind of thing gives me the creeps, but he put itin such a sensible, natural way it caught me off guard. And it made me think, because it was true. Then I listened to the CD, willingly, every day for over a month. The only slightly jarring note I found is that some of the words he uses on the CD are American, not English, & I find it breaks my mood slightly, but it was worth persevering.
Yes, it stated the obviousin some places, but explained itin a way that really made sense to me, at last. Eating for emotional support: he made me spot the triggers, & now I've actually stopped doing it. Eating when I wasn't hungry, being a member of the 'clean plate club': not any more. Yes, it takes will-power as well, of course it does, but I don't feel guilty (oh, joy!) when I eat chocolate or a pizza, & I (usually) don't finish it because I genuinely don't want to, so I don't feel deprived, just smug.
I've lost over two stone & I actually prefer to eat healthily, now; I'm very proud of myself, & grateful to him.
I recommend this: he explains thingsin a very down-to-earth way, he really does make sense & if you honestly want to lose weight - he will help you do it.

With this kind of book review I think it's necessary to give a little background of myself & where I was weight wise before trying it. My BMI was about 26/27 so although nt perfect not exactly considered overweight. However I wanted to lose maybe half a stone. I exercise quite a bit soin order to try & lose it I thought cutting down on food might be the way to go.
I have to say it didn't work for me. Maybe my eating habits were not that badin the first place or maybe I'm one of the people that it just doesn't work for. I did give it a good go for a while with little resultsin terms of weight.
However, I did find it goodin terms of promoting a better self image & increasing self esteem. It helps to give a more balanced sense of yourself & your life, soin that way it is worth a look. The main thrust of the book is to help you lose weight thought which for me it didn't, hence only 2 stars.

This book has been life changing for me! I have been a seriel dieter & binge eater for as long as i can remember.I used to think "If i stick to this diet & lose weight i will be happy".Then when i fell of the wagon (always!) i would feel like a failure & my self esteem would go even lower.You know the drill.Last year i decided to try something different so i picked up this book.I read itin a couple of hours & what an eye opener those few hours were! I could see how diets were just making my problem worse.Making me more fat & more miserable.So i decided to stop dieting (and save money) & dedicate myself to the system.Today i am 2 stone lighter & easily maintain a size 8 figure.Of course i am ecstatic about this fact but i am even more excited about the changesin my eating patterns.No longer do i fear cheesecake.No longer do i dread going out to eat & feeling left out while everyone tucks into delicious food while i have lettuce.If i want something,ANYTHING then i will have it! I still eat fish & chips,chocolate,ice cream etc.Only i will now wait until i am truly hungry,eat consciously & stop when im full.So simple but so effective! I must say that it does take abit of effort to get used to the rules at first.For e.g i found it hard to work out whether i was hungry physically or emotionally.Give it a few weeks & the system will soon be engraved into your conscious.
The biggest achievement i have got out of this system is that i havent binged once since i got it.I am SO much happier & my self esteem has improved so much! If you have had enough of diets failing you then please give this book a go.It may not work for you but if it does then it will be worth its weightin gold.

This was quite a good book but it was all about positive thinking rather than hypnotherapy & you can do that without a book, just adapat a "mantra" of positive thinking & away you go. Not my favourite slimming book

I bought this book after I read all the really positive remarks by the other reviewers. If it had such a high star rating after so many reviews there must be something good about it. I had about 2.5 stone of post baby weight to lose which I haven't been able to shift since I had my little girl nearly 3 years ago. I was also eating due to being at home full time & being tired/bored. It seemed a catch 22 - I had resigned myself to being a fat frumpy mum which then led me to comfort eating.
However after reading Paul McKenna's book (which I did straight throughin 2 hours) I knew I had found something that would help. Although common sense he puts it allin such a positive & supportive way it gives you the willpower to do it. I don't know how the CD works but it does. I listen to it fairly reguarly & find it very relaxing anyway, but my cravings for food & eating when I'm not hungry have totally vanished. I only want to eat when I feel hungry & I can feel when I am full now & stop. I seem to be eating half of what I use to but do not feel hungry or deny myself anything I want. In three weeks I have lost a stone & apart from the weight lose I feel so much more positive about my self image & feel more confident. After trying other diets which were a prison sentence this is fab. It completely changes your eating habits so that you can continue to eat sensibly & happily forever.
