for the fans of the two programmes - By: Mrs. J. L. Davie, 02 Apr 2006
this book is a must for fans of the buffy realm. but you need to read the other two books that comein this set of books. a good read & one that you can really lose yourselve in. it has the characters that if your a fan you will associate with but i also believe it is a good book for the first time person coming into the buffy/angel realm.
Buffy and Angel finally find out what is really going on... - By: , 30 Jun 2002
"Door to Alternity," the secondin the "Unseen" Buffy/Angel crossover trilogy, offers us an explanation for why people are disappearingin Los Angeles while monsters are popping up all over the placein Sunnydale. But what is more interesting is what we discover to be the power behind the opening of these doors to "alternity," as Nancy Holder & Jeff Mariotte offer an interesting twist on the downfall of the Soviet Union. Now we understand why the Russian Mafiya has been playing so prominent a rolein the proceedings. However, overall "Door to Alternity" is pretty much a holding pattern for the Vampire Slayer & her former beau, as well as the supporting players. By the end of the book is it finally time for Buffy & Angel to go do something about it & all you can say is "About time."

The idea of "alternity" is certainly interesting, but the explanation gets held off for over 200 pages & there is no exploration of the conceptin this novel. For those of us who were so impressed by "The Ghost Roads," the second bookin the first Buffy the Vampire Slayer trilogy, "Door to Alternity" suffersin comparison, but to be fair, most Buffy books would. Among the supporting cast Wesley has a couple of nice moments, Willow gets to be a bird (but does not get to learn as much as I would have wished from Dona Pilar), Anya continues to say the wrong things (usually about sex) at each & every opportunity, & Gunn gets to take a road trip to Sunnydale. But now that this second book has put (almost) all the piecesin place, it is time to see if Holden & Mariotte can put it into high gear for the finale.

Not Bad - By: , 05 Dec 2001
The first book of the Unseen trillogy was very enjoyable. Its great to have Buffy & Angel working together & it keeps you wanting to read more with the focus switching between Sunnydale & LA. Asin all of Nancy Holders books the characterisation is spot on & everyone seems true to their respective series. However, this book isn't quite up to the standard setin The Burning. Thats not to say it's bad though. The book is quite enjoyable & it sits well as the middle of a trillogy.
If you've read the Burning, then you really have to read this. If you're interestedin other trillogies, then the Gatekeeper Trillogy is the way to go. Bearin mind though, while this is set between seasons four & five, the Gatekeeper is set much earlier on so you'll be without the likes of Riley & Gunn.
Not overly impressed - By: , 05 Jul 2001
'Door To Alternity' keeps on plodding forward, but that's about the best that can be said for it; I hope Holder & Mariotte are keeping their top material back for the final part of the trilogy, because it's not here.

Characterisation,in general, is good: far too much sex talk from Anya, a depth of feeling from Buffy for Riley that the show doesn't really bear out, & a non-entirely-believable volte face for one of the original characters. There are some snide comments about Spike/vampires & evil that made me feel Holder and/or Mariotte might just not be redemptionistas. A few characters seem to be levered in, particularly Gunn.

Quite a lot happens over the course of this installment... but barely an hour later, I'm hard-pushed to remember any of it. The various storylines are furthered - with less interaction between groups than might be expected for a trilogy feted as a crossover - without being terribly interesting; too many incredibly detailed fight scenes & not enough deep character examination.

Overall, the book is decent enough; but strictly as part of a trilogy rather than able to stand alone as an enjoyable read.

This book is witty and thrilling - By: boymadbecky@yahoo.co.uk, 27 Jun 2001
This book is a worthy follow up to unseen the burning. It keeps youin suspense throughout & once again has alot of butt kicking attitude from buffy & angel. I loved this book & i've already read it twice!
