Most beautiful comic - By: Marina, 14 Jan 2008
I have to admit that I'm not really into comics, but The Crow is far beyond compare. Most beautiful & touching love story combined with wonderful illustrations & a great selection of poems. Rough but at the same time sensitive, it's a book that always moves me. "It's forever, now"
A study in tragic love - By: Lilith, 12 Apr 2007
Before you cast this graphic novel aside as some kind of self-pitying, whining, goth-validating piece of rubbish, think again. Anyone who has known what it is like to experience grief will identify so totally with this book it's unreal, while those who don't will be speechless with sorrow. Never once self-indulgent, James O'Barr has put so much soul into this work it will overwhelm you, while the dexterity with which he mixes different mediums to ehance the emotive power of the pages is truly what makes it a work of art.
If you find it cliched, you must be skimming - what at first may appear to be a watery moping Tarantino-esque revenge story will soon have you hooked.
In short, I was incredibly impressed, both with the unusual artwork & the quality of writing. Worth the extortionate price I paid for itin a real bookshop!
Five Stars Ain't Enough =p - By: the_crow-64, 22 Aug 2006
This was the first Graphic Novel i ever bought, & i'm glad i did.
This is THE graphic novel that everyone must own, everyone =p It's truly amazing. I was actually spechless after i finished it...
Very emotional, beautiful creation. And the drawing is superb too =p
IT's such a shame that most people have only seen the film with Brandon Lee. And it's disgusting that bands such as Aiden & H.I.M. have decided to dress upin that style, undoubtley with no knowledge of the book. Bastards.
So read this shizz & be one step ahead of the scene kids ;)
Flicker of a movie is nothing to the turn of a page. - By: pippa, 24 Feb 2006
The beauty of this graphic novel is notin each separate element. You cannot fully enjoy itin it’s entirety unless you look, read, imagine & feel every separate piece of emotion that falls into place.
J. O’Barr tells the tragic story of his character, Eric Draven, with more passion than Jane Austinin Little Women. Far from a story of women finding growing up a struggle, Eric finds death a struggle & seeks revenge purely out of love.
This story would seem dull & boring by modern standards but, as I said, if looking upon it with an emotive & pin pointing eye, you will find that there is more to this story that is first seen.
All the poetry & use of colour & the story itself merge together to create a beautiful & timeless story.
It retains a certain common ground which the film seemed to omit (although Brandon Lee captured the fury of Mr. Draven with immense success) which makes the series of events all the more beautiful as it isn’t happening to a young rock star & his love with the insert of ploys to kill. Eric is young, he isin love… but the love seems to retain purity when he is a normal man out with his fiancé on a simple date…and they did nothing at all to lead to their demise…and yet he still comes backin her name.
If you are not one to have your heart melted by simply a moving picture, The Crow: Graphic Novel is definitely a book to own & read many times over because it’s story doesn’t grow old & it can be related to simply by those inner feelings for, if we couldn’t die, what would we do for the ones that we love?
justice for victims - By: , 13 Oct 2003
This book is unique, I have never read anything which conveys emotions with such power. A beautiful story about love, vengence & the ultimate struggle between good & evil. This story makes me sad because what happens to Eric Draven & his fiance happens all the time to good people -their lives are destroyed by someone else. James O'Barr knows the pain of losing a loved one & he has drawn that pain onto every page of the bookin the form of the Crow. Don't expect happy endings -there aren't any...
