My wee boy (2 yrs) & I love to read this at bed-time. The rhythm of the text goes along very nicely, & is simple enough for a toddler to follow along with the lovely pictures (reminiscent of his other favourite, 'We're Going on a Bear Hunt'). It reminds me of George Orwell, for obvious reasons, & tells a nice story of the fat farmer being evicted to make way for the animals - two legs bad!!!

A sensitive story about exploitation which will be understood by the very youngest of children: downtrodden Duck works for gluttonous, lazy Farmer until his friends plan a rebellion on his behalf. The language is lyrical, the illustrations beautiful, & my children loved it!

I like this book because it has a happy ending. The farmer gets chased away. I liked the plot & the character farmer because he is fat & lazy.
