Outstanding Value for any Cricket Lover - By: , 29 Apr 2001
Playfair Cricket Annual 2001 is a pocket sized library of up to date cricket statistics & information. It contains to the point pen pictures of each first class county & their playing staff, a summary of the previous season & very importantly international stats for test & limited over games. Well laid out & easy to use.....cracking good value for the money!
Class production keeps fan informed of Player data and other - By: , 21 Apr 2001
the new edition maintains its tradition of keeping the fan up to date by following its regular format. The way any fan can see if a player is approaching a personal best shows how useful it is as a reference tool.It also gives a summary on all players registered which is especially useful when a newcomer breaks into the side. This edition also contains a tribute to the great Sir Don Bradman possibly the greatest player that ever lived. The inclusion of County Phone numbers is also helpful when weather is dodgy & want clarification before the short trip to the ground.I find this a very compulsive read & plan my diary around the fixture section included at the back. The fielding chart is very useful for teaching new fans about players positions.I also find it is the perfect size as a reference guide.
Absolutely indispensible. - By: , 09 May 2000
Wisden, of course, is cricket's "yellow Bible". But its sheer bulk makes it inconvenient to lug around the grounds, &in any case it is primarily a journal of record rather than a form guide. Which is where Bill Frindall's Playfair Annual, concentrating as it does on the present, comes in.
The decision to abandon commentin the body of the book, even on the NatWest Trophy, & instead to ask a prominent figure (this year it's Justin Langer) to pen a foreword has been a success, as readers have been treated to some very thought-provoking & trenchant opinions. Frindall's editorial is also interesting.
The tried & tested layout is little changed, although new registrations no longer have a section to themselves at the end of each county's register, which is a bit of a shame. The book is just as easy to flick through as ever it was, & will be by my side all season.
