Funny, sexy and wildly entertaining - By: Lawrence Corr, 13 Oct 2008
I thought I'd pick this up & give it a read on a whim, having watched a few of the lovely Miss Porter's documentaries on BBC Three I found myself really quite engrossedin her presenting style & choice of subject matter.
I'll be honest, I wasn't really expecting much (being a typical guy quite averse to 'chick-lit') but actually found it to be a real page turner,in a light hearted & comical style, which actually made it quite a pleasurable, if short, read.
The main thing that got me was just how genuine she comes acrossin this book, page to page through her clear-cut & sometimes comically inventive narrative it is undeniable she is a very likeable & engaging character, & every date & story told is felt to be very sincere.
Although I found this book a very enjoyable read overall, I did find myself quite frustrated at times by the amount of grammar errorsin the main body of the text. The e-mails faithfully reproduced can be forgiven, but many simple mistakes made it feel a little unpolished. Although conversely it could quite easily be said these foibles perhaps further help Dawn become a little more accessible; these are meant to be 'Diaries..' after all.
Either way, I found it an enjoyable read & was held captive by Miss Porter's undeniable wit & charm, & would wholeheartedly recommend it to anyone hovering over the 'Add to Shopping Basket' button.
Good luck to Dawn with her future projects & looking forward to her next book!
Oh dear!! - By: Dr. J. D. Mitchell, 26 Sep 2008
I read this bookin an afternoon on holiday. It had been left (unsurprisingly) by a previous guest. Oh dear.
It is boring, badly written, dull, self-obsessed, repetitive nonsense. It is unenlightening, totally unerotic & very childish.
I'm an open minded chap but can only think that the main market for this book is trashy magazine reading illiterates or (soon to be disappointed)men looking for titillation. Sad & rubbish.
A bit sad really - By: Prospero, 07 Jul 2008
I feel hesitant to recommend this book asin many ways it seems to be an account of a rather mean fraud upon men. The author puts out an invitation on the internet which appears to hold some romantic promise, gets men to pay out for very expensive meals out (e.g. at The Ivy) & then goes home to riducule some of them for the purposes of making money from this book. The sexual content was rather thin as was the humour. It does however serve as a bit of a warning to men hence I give it one star. This book should really be titled 'The Freeloading Feminist'. One poor sap even paid for Ms Porter to have a week wining & diningin New York for little or nothingin return.

I bought this book because I've seen Dawn Porters series on BBC3 & I think she is really funny. There is nothing fake about her-what you see is what you get.
I read this bookin one evening-it's funny,sexy & witty.
A must read for all you girlies!
A great read. - By: Ms. S. Carroll, 08 Mar 2008
I think the essential thing is to take this book with a pinch of salt. It must be remembered that its not a guide to internet dating, & never was intended to be, it's simply a journal of Dawn Porter's internet dating experiences & how they worked out for her. I really enjoyed the book, I think the author is likeable, extremely honest & her outright sexuality was great. The men she met were described brilliantly, & I love the way they were given comedy names 'the bumbino' & 'flash' to name but two.
To say the spelling was awful is just silly, the book itself was written well, & yes, there were the odd spelling mistakesin the emails within the book, but jeez that adds a touch of realism to the book...how many people write emails at home & dont concentrate & make the odd spelling error? give the girl a break!
I say its a cute, funny book to be enjoyedin your leisure. Perhaps, beingin my early twenties I could relate more to the author's perspective/sense of humour, who knows, but I totally recommend this book! Laughs to be had all the way through. Good luck to Miss. Porter for the future x
