This book is a must for any submarine novice. The books elongated title really does justice to the books content,in that the book provides for a detailed & illustrated guide to the history of submarine development. All types (class) of submarines are illustrated: from Nautilus (1800's) to Virginia (2007).
The book details early submarine development with numerous passages of text & B/W illustrations. The book progresses from early submersible development onto submarine operations during WW1 & WW2 - using well laid out passages of text to detail real-life story & exploits of submarinesin battle, whilstin addition providing the reader with an in-sight into the hardship & bravery of the sub-mariner.
Following the ending of the Second World War the book provides detail of submarine development during the Cold War. Once again the book uses numerous passages of text & colour illustrations. All the major Cold War - America, British & Russian boats are list & illustratedin colour - along with data-table detailing boat performance & armaments. The book concludes with a glossary of the acronyms & technical terms used within the text.
