Good quality stuff in my opinion. - By: Chief., 03 Oct 2008
Bendis is a writer who evokes mixed emotions. Some see him as a genius whilst others consider him little more than a hack.
Dissassembled, like Bendis himself, has also garnered such mixed reviews but contrary to the other reviewers here I actually consider it not only to be some of Bendis best work but also one of the best Avengers tales period.
Dissassembled was the last Marvel comic that literally blew me away - the hits come thick & fast & leave the reader not quite able to believe what theyve just seen. The action is stellar & finchs art is top quality as you might expect.
Whats more Dissassembled is an absolutely essential 'gateway' book into the Marvel universe - being the catalyst for just about every major story that has been published since, including House of M, Decimation, Civil War & now Secret Invasion.
In factin light of Secret Invasion, Dissassembled has taken on an even more essential placein the history of the Marvel universe & becomes even more significant & interesting a read now than it was when it was first released. The very fact that there are skrulls hidden within its pages (yeah, I missed them first time too!) makes one appreciate just what a grand & long term vision Bendis had developed for the future of the Marvel universe, & whilst some of the stories that followed may have dissappointed it is my opinion that Dissassembled does not.
Disassembled or just falling apart? - By: S. Bentley, 01 Jun 2005
Brian Michael Bendis has a good reputationin comics. Powers is considered to be brilliant & what I've read is very good. But the man's strength isin characters' voices & realistic sounding dialogue, notin plotting. Andin a big action book like Avengers the plot is very important. So sadly,in what should have been a book that revitalised the Avengers (who have been overshadowed by reimagined versions of themselvesin the Ultimates which is far superior to this) what we get is characters standing around & talking a lot. They do little except react very slowly to each illogical plot twist & wait for another character to deliver the answer to the mystery & defeat the villainin a deus ex machina ending. This is not a good book to become acquainted with the Avengers.
Ok for existing readers , but not a good stand-alone read - By: WJ Davidson, 03 May 2005
For some reason I expected to be more interestedin the characters & their fates, but no. It just didn't have any emotional resonance at all.
I haven't read the ongoing series leading up to this (to be honest the last time I bought a mag, it was around the Kree Skrull War & the Mandroids & Inhumans were all over the mansion) so perhaps I shouldn't have been surprised.
However, I had hoped for the kind of book that engages new readers & old, but there just isn't enough to substance, to either the story or the characterisations to allow it to stand alone.
Bendis has done the unthinkable?!?! - By: , 21 Mar 2005
who would have thought that the avengers could end?. Earths mightiest heroes are going to be obliteratedin this graphic novel as many heroes are slaughtered by a members unknown insanity! prepare to see the team pitted against the impossible.
the beginning of the story is intresting as you are not prepared for what happens but at the very end the story seems slightly pointless & unjustifiedin a context. but apparently this is a graphic novel which finishes the avengers line of comic books but not the end of some of the characters & it is going to lead into another storyline a lot more sinister & with a better line up (captain america, luke cage, spiderman & many others). this book is a decent buy but only if you want to know what happened to your beloved super heroes
