I have been to Egypt, the first time wasin 1993, & I made my mind up that I'd like to study Egyptology.
Althoughin my second year of studying Egyptology, during my first year this was one of my study books.
It's an excellent book for discovering Ancient Egypt's History. It covers many areas so it's not just an in-depth book on one subject.
This is a revised edition on the 1980 publication, as we all know they are always discovering new information from the constant digs that are going onin Egypt. It's a good idea to revise books otherwise these days as far as Egyptology goes they get out dated pretty quickly.
There are three part to this book, part one is to do with the cultural setting, part two takes you on a journey down the Nile explaining what you'll come across & the history behind it, part three is on the aspect of Egyptian society.
Besides the excellent text of this book there are some lovely photographs, drawings & excellent maps included.
I would say that this is more of an overview of Ancient Egyptian history as it covers many aspects, so it doesn't get to intense which is great for someone who just wants a little knowledge about different thingsin Egypt.
You may feel this book is a lot of money but its well worth it; it's a good reference book.
It makes an excellent edition to my little Egyptian library, which now stands at nearly 1000 books on this subject. :-)
