Quite negative in parts - By: Tufty, 25 Nov 2008
While this book has produced quite a lot of cultural references still usedin the modern world, there are ample examples of negativity, especiallyin Act 1 ('The Old Testament'). For instance, the maddened patriarch known as Yahweh (also rather confusingly referred to as 'God', 'Lord', 'Jehovah' & 'Jesus') bans a couple from a garden for scrumping apples. Later, he starts striking people down dead, floods the entire world & is even caught telling women they must marry their rapists.

There's a nice bitin the middle (see Act 2 - 'The New Testament)' about a guy who wants everyone to be nice to each other, but the author kills him off too quickly & the message his character was communicating gets lost.

Having passed this highlight, the book rambles on quite a bit until it finishes with some crazy stuff about a 'rapture'. Fortunately, this is followed by some nice poems ('psalms') that the author seems to have added as an afterthought.

There's also a lot of homophobia & atheophobia throughout, but most people are aware of that so I won't go into detail. Just don't give it to your children - I'd recommend a 15 rating on this.
over-rated - By: R. Blackley, 26 Jun 2008
it was an ok book, weak characters & an unoriginal plot really spoil it though. The God character is very whiny & needy, always demanding people worship him or going schizo & nuking every goon that looks at him cross eyed with lashings of brimstone. Satan on the other hand, is all you could wantin a fictional super villain, he really saves the sequel (which is also packagedin the book) because that hippy guy with the frigid mother they introduce half way through makes it nearly unreadable.
It makes for good "on-the-lavvy" reading though
What a book - By: Mr. G. L. Roberts, 17 Jun 2008
Loved the whole book, great ending. Can't wait to read the next installment. We can only hope it is as thrilling as this one!
Smashing Read! - By: Ms. C. Bell, 10 Jun 2008
This is just like Lord of the Rings, same amount of beards, but with more donkeys & less horses!
not bad - By: knocked out '73 woke up, 02 May 2008
bit dated, bit contradictory, could have benefited from an energetic & skilled editor. Not as good as the movie, but well I am looking forward to the sequel
