Another Lifestyle Manual -not! - By: D. A. Jones, 01 Dec 2006
Just what I don't need, another cheesy lifestyle book full of Americanisms, Hershey bars, golf & baseball. And wasn't this the kind of thing that I tried so hard to avoidin my work life? The alarm bells ring - is this to be a honeyed invitation to the world of Prosperity Theology? Have faith, have it all,in this world & the next.
But wait! Read further. This guy is an engaging writer, it is no surprise, that he is a New York Times Best Selling Author. This is a thoroughly practical book, good humoured & above all God centred. It is about finding happinessin what God desires of you notin self-seeking. The things of God come first.
Lucado has real compassion for those without Christ. He is keenly aware of the human predicament & deals with it gently & lovingly. He is no less helpful regarding the position of beleaguered believers who might be weakeningin the face of an increasingly demanding worldview that has no time for the things of real value that Jesus Christ brings.
In short Lucado proves himself to be a warm-hearted & persuasive encourager -an exhorter. His style is easy & he consistently points the reader to God's word, thoughin this he wears his learning lightly, showing a keen sense of audience. Though written for the American market I found his introductory anecdotes very helpfulin extending my understanding.
Cure for a common problem - By: Arabella LaRusse, 24 Jun 2006
I've always been a little stuck on knowing what my spiritual gifts might be abd how to use them, so I was really pleased with the issues addressedin Lucado's new book. His style is easy to relate to & he expresses himself with humor (and lots of it!) But he stays focused on the subject of 'finding your sweet spot'. Very helpful & inspiring read.
