A flower losing it's petals?- By: , 14 Jul 2004 As the mother of a ten year old daughter with Alopecia Universalis (no hair on her head or body at all), I was a bit speculative about buying a book about Alopecia given the cover picture of a flower losing it's petals! (an unfortunate anology, I think) A balance needs to be struck between aiming to be positive & helping professionals to realise how fundamental this can be to the individual's self esteem. There were a few helpful tipsin this book, but I did find it rather depressing, not just because of my own emotional involvement. I believe that this book would be more of use to professionals or wider familyin introducing them to the concept of Alopecia. It gives the basicsin a very easy to understand & sympathetic way, which would have helped me as a parent when the first bout happened, if it were not so depressing. Apparently, one of the writer's has Alopecia too, which is what made me buy the book, but I would have preferred a more positive outlook even if just to remind us that there is life after hair.
