Very Good But A Little Stiff and Ceremonial in Teaching! - By: Earth Gypsy, 07 Nov 2008
Written as a general review on her books of which I have most of them & with whom I started off with on My Wicca path. I have studied Wiccan though for many years.
As a naturalist I prefer to keep things simple & natural! Silver's approach doesn't really do it for me as I prefer a more folk/gypsy style way of approaching Wicca & Magickin general...
Silver's book are witty, informative, packed with information & idea's & really teach youin depth Wicca but not how to put it all togetherin your headin an enjoyable & easy kind of way so you can practice on your own. She encourages you to design & find your own way of designing spells & rituals but only within specific guidelines leaving you still confused & as to how to go about it! She has a bit of a stiff & technical approach to the teaching & ethics of Wiccan practice & her idea's, spells & rituals are hard & fastly set.
If you are looking for a more relaxed & easy approach then I would not recommend her books. I highly recommend Patricia Telesco's style of teaching first & then go on to Silver's books if you are looking for a more complicated & ceremonial style of Wicca.
Average....have seen better - By: Thalia Enchantae, 02 Aug 2007
When i bought To Ride a Silver Broomstick I expected to have a gripping readin my hands but found, however, that it was a bit average & rambling. It would be a good book for beginners into Witchcraft or Wicca but for me it was a bit patronisingin places & I found the author is quite commanding & forceful of her own opinions throughout the book rather than giving you fact. However for new practioners into the Craft it could be a comforting & reliable book but for me it bored me & was writtenin an irritating style.
Gobsmacked - By: Star Dragon, 06 Feb 2007
it seems to me that silver is getting a lot of flack about this one & the "sequels" i have to say this book was fantastic & if it wasnt for her i would not know half about the craft that i do today her writing style is immpecable she talks too you which makes you feel you have an acctual teacher who is teaching u the craft & for people like me who have no access to a teacher of that sort it is the best thingin the world not just that it isnt just straight reading like some books wheras u are supposed ti just raed it & "pop!!" you are suposed to know it all there are tasks that she sets you which makes the learning experience all that more worthwhile & enjoyable i am a fan of silvers books & will always stick by the things she tried to teach to her i say "blessed Be" to a witch who knows how to teach...
as for those who have made a remark about her name "Silver Ravenwolf" if you had bothered actually giving the book a chance you would know why she uses that alias.
Simple - By: E. Penn-Hughes, 28 Jun 2006
It is very tempting to reach for Silver RavenWolf because she is so accessible. However this book is really very fluffy bunny! I brought this book about 3 years ago read a bit of it & have never used it! I found her tone at times patronising, & occasionally she's just plain wrong. If you're really interestedin Wicca or Witchcraft try Kate West, Rae Beth or Scott Cunningham. It really is telling that these people write under their real names isn't it!
Brill - By: Kat, 01 May 2005
For beginners it is brilliant. If you know the basics its also very good. Its everything you need to know about the Craft. Everyone should have this book. It tells you about different types of witches, finding your craft name, how to cast & create spells. Very very good.
